DCM Investigation by FDA

We wanted to share information about the June 27, 2019 update released by FDA.  We are privileged to have a large part of our customer base shop with us because of a health issue or allergy their furry kids were suffering from.  We have helped guide, and will continue to help guide, our customers in the direction of the most healthful choices for their dogs and cats.

The facts are stated in the FDA article but I’m going to point out what stuck out to Barbara and I. From 2014 to 2019 (5 years) there are approximately 560 cases of dog and cats with DCM. 560 out of 77 million household pets. That’s .000007% of pets. According to the article, 1 in 729,000 dogs will be diagnosed with DCM and 1 in 3.43 million will die from it.  And, it plainly states in the article that the FDA does not know what it could be about diets high in legumes and pulses that may be connected to DCM and even states that some of the diets reported are grain-based (including vegetarian and vegan) diets.  See the FDA's report and statement here:  https://www.fda.gov/media/128303/download

At A Pet's Paradise we feel the best way to feel good about what you are feeding your dog or cat in light of the questions being posed by the FDA is by making sure you are buying the best food you can for your dog.  Adding fresh and other formats of food to your pet's diet will significantly increase the quality of your dog or cat's health.  Adding cans, raw, freeze-dried raw, whole-food cooked (check out our new Raised-Right, veterinarian approved food in our freezer section), raw milk and bone broth will only raise the overall quality of your pet's diet and ensure they are getting the best nutrition for their health and well-being.

We have posted and written several other articles about DCM over the past several months on our blog and Facebook page.  Our position has not changed with the FDA recent report.

As always, we are abreast of the latest information and news that affects your pet.  If you have concerns about your pet's diet, please feel free to call or stop by the store to talk with us.  We're here to help!
